Mother Earth was in a terrible mess. ‘
I have been ravaged,’ she said to me. “Look at what they have done to me. My spirit is dying and I fear that soon I will be left without any life on me at all. It will all have been for nothing”
She was indeed in a mess. She was nearly naked and heartbroken. Would it better just to leave her to die or try perhaps to heal her, even if it were to be a painful experience.
“All is not lost”, I said to her, without much conviction. “Let us see what we can do”
It is true she was covered in scars, her beauty had been taken away from her. The beings that lived on her had done all these things and never once gave her a thought. They fought each other for her possessions and each fight left her more distressed and broken.
We called a Council of Peace out of her sight and discussed what should be done. Most did feel it was an experiment that had failed and perhaps we should start again somewhere else but this time be careful about controlling the development of certain things.
It took some time to persuade them to give her one more chance for a good life. After all there was still potential, there was still sunlight and though they did not realise it there was water in abundance - they thought if they couldn’t drink it it was useless.
We put in some powerful characters and we changed the mind sets of some of the influential ones that were left. It meant they declared a moratorium on wars between their groups as a first move.
The powerful characters were able to teach them how to use the power of atoms which they had discovered accidentally for themselves but didn’t know how to control or what its proper benefit could be.
These were used to make massive desalination plants and clear water from the oceans was pumped into the areas that they had dehydrated. A massive irrigation system was being put in place In some areas the natural heat of Mother Earth’s body was tapped to provide more energy.
The results were quite spectacular in restoring her health. Trees grew again. The dry places became fertile and home to woods, farms and villages. The people could grow food and did not have to travel across the surface fighting for morsels. There was plenty for all and Mother Earth could sustain all the life that was upon her. The air became clean and people became happy. They thanked the gods they had invented and lived with a new joy in their hearts. We were pleased. It was better to use the flood in a different way this time.
‘I am better alive’ she said, ‘than floating lifeless in space without my human race.’
