In the darkness of an endless night
She lifts the cup to kiss the wine
And sighs with love for the life that’s torn.
The dawn won’t come and today won’t go
The children’s laugh is dead and gone
The pegs on the line fit in one hand
and the breeze has blown her soul away.
O shine the light on the soul set free

The cup is full but the wine’s all gone
The picture hangs with words unsaid
The fire is hot but the heat is cold
The future’s left and shut the gate

Where is the book that she can read
That tells of tears to anoint the head
Of thorns and nails that cut you free
Shining eyes rejoiced in death
Conceal the love from all she’s known

Waltzing through the eyeless night
The song of love comes into sight
Footprints fade and dancers stop
All eyes turn to the ticking clock
The cup has fallen to the floor
knocked by death to kiss no more
