Thoughts - Ascension Day

Today in the Christian calendar it is Ascension Day. Remembering Jesus being going up
into heaven at the end of his time on earth. His body had been sealed in a tomb but he
miraculously returned to life and was seen by his disciples. Then he faded away before
their eyes.
Christian churches celebrate this day with special services. It meant that death is not the
end of human life, it meant that Jesus really was divine, it meant that God was real and all
Jesus had said was true
Of course if you are not a Christian this day means nothing. To others it might be some
kind of folk tale, a fantasy at best. Even though most faiths have stories about holy men
and women travelling in spirit form to far away places.
To me as a cynical romantic, I like this story. I don't care whether it is true or not. It is the
final chapter in the story of a spiritual hero who taught how to change the world.
That everyone should to be treated with equal respect, everyone was a special human
being. He did not discriminate because they were also Samaritan or Roman soldier, or
scribe or tax collector..
And we can say that because he did not die, the teaching did not die either.
It has inspired. It inspired reformers such as Martin Luther King. It inspires people
spiritually to follow.
He was the spiritual hero. Heroes never die.
